British girl, 11, killed in horror jet

Yagmur Koseoglu was desperate to ride the jet-ski on her family holiday but tragedy struck in Sarimsakli Beach in Ayvalik last week when another craft smashed into the child

A 11-year-old girl has been killed while on holiday in Turkey in front of her family following a horror jet-ski crash.

Yağmur Koseoglu was enjoying the ride with her father when another craft lost control and ploughed into her. The youngster was killed on impact as her relatives watched the tragedy unfold. She was rushed to hospital following the collision but nothing could be done to save her life.

The accident took place at Sarimsakli Beach in Ayvalik last week. She died when another jet ski, reportedly being driven by a teenager, smashed into them at high speed. Her dad Okan told local media it was his daughter was excited to try out the popular water activity during their trip. An investigation into her death is still on-going.

The little girl dreamed of becoming a pop star, her broken uncle has said. The family, from Wood Green, London, were on a one-week break during the school holidays. Mehmet Goren, 39, paid tribute to “beautiful” Yagnmur, saying she was “always smiling” and had big dreams.

They remembered Yağmur’s memory after a ceremony was organised at the Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi in London. More than 400 people attended before her coffin was taken to the BAF facility in Edmonton. She was later laid to rest at the Alevi Cemetery in Enfield, north London.

In May, a man was killed in another jet ski accident in front of horrified beachgoers in Worthing beach, near Goring-by-Sea. The 26-year-old was said to have been involved in an accident with a jet ski, with witnesses saying they saw a boat overturn. Despite the best efforts of medics after they were rushed to hospital, the man died shortly afterwards.

The Coastguard said the man died after he became "separated from his jet ski" and they responded along with the air ambulance. A spokesperson for the service said: "HM Coastguard, Sussex Police, South East Ambulance Service and an air ambulance responded to reports of a man separated from his jet ski off Goring-by-Sea yesterday, 29 May. At around 6pm a Coastguard Recue Team from Littlehampton and a lifeboat from Littlehampton RNLI were sent to the scene."
